Beebe Medical Center Dedicates the Central Utility Building in Memory of E. James Monihan

05/10/10

""Beebe Medical Center invites the community to the dedication of the E. James Monihan Central Utility Building in memory of Jim Monihan. The ceremony will take place at 1 p.m., Sunday, May 23, in the Central Utility Building. The Building is located next to the Beebe School of Nursing on Market Street.

Mr. Monihan's steadfast commitment and distinguished tenure at Beebe Medical Center spanned four decades-42 years of service-and touched many people in the community. Though he officially retired in 2004, he remained committed to Beebe Medical Center until his death on July 18, 2009, serving as Special Consultant to the President.

Mr. Monihan is also often associated with his tireless devotion as a volunteer with the Lewes Fire Service. He started his career at Beebe as a pharmacist in 1962, held numerous executive positions, including Vice President of Administration/Chief Compliance Officer, and retired as Vice President of Construction Projects. Mr. Monihan led over seven major expansion projects, including the Lynch and Rollins buildings; the clinical wing of the main campus on Savannah Road; and the development of the Millsboro Surgery Center, the Long Neck Health Center, the Millville Emergency Center, and the Beebe Health Campus on Route 24.

Mr. Monihan was instrumental in the planning and construction of the Central Utility Building, completed in 2003, which expanded Beebe Medical Center's electrical, heating and cooling capacity to prepare for the $35 million expansion project that began in 2004 and culminated in 2008 with the opening of the Joseph R. Hudson Wing.
