Beebe Medical Center Recognizes Doctors on National Doctors' Day

03/22/10

As National Doctors' Day approaches, Beebe Medical Center takes the opportunity to thank the doctors for the difference they make in the lives of patients and their families.

We would like to recognize the physicians for the care they provide to patients they see at Beebe Medical Center, said Jeffrey M. Fried, President and CEO of Beebe Medical Center. Without the participation of these dedicated physicians, Beebe Medical Center would not be able to bring quality health care services to the diverse and growing communities that we serve.

National Doctors' Day takes place annually on March 30. Observances date back to March 30, 1933, the anniversary of the first use of general anesthesia in surgery. In 1958, the United States House of Representatives adopted a Resolution commemorating Doctors' Day; and in 1990, Congress approved legislation establishing National Doctors' Day. The first celebration of Doctors' Day was in 1991. In recent years, Beebe Medical Center has invited physicians to breakfast and lunch festivities at the hospital. This year, a family event is being planned for the fall.

There are more than 200 doctors representing nearly 30 different specialties who are affiliated with Beebe Medical Center. The majority of these doctors operate their own private practices throughout the area. They elect a medical executive committee that works closely with Beebe Medical Center Board of Directors and management to ensure that quality healthcare continues to be available to the residents and visitors of Sussex County.
Beebe Medical Center is a not-for-profit community medical center with a charitable mission to encourage healthy living, prevent illness, and restore optimal health with the people residing, working, or visiting in the communities we serve.
