Starrlight Foundation Presents $1000 Grant to Tunnell Cancer Center

11/17/09

The Starrlight Fund presented a grant of $1,000 to the Tunnell Cancer Center to support the special needs of patients with ovarian cancer. The Starrlight Fund, held at the Delaware Community Foundation, was established by Tammy Brittingham and her husband Mike Pelrine and son Eban Brittingham of Lewes.

It is our dream to help ease the distress and havoc that cancer, in this case ovarian cancer, causes in the lives of women who live in downstate Delaware, said Mrs. Brittingham.

The money is earmarked to assist women with ovarian cancer who live in Kent and Sussex Counties and who experience urgent, short-term financial crisis brought about by or exacerbated by their cancer. The funds may be used to assist with medical and non-medical needs.

We are grateful for this support of the Patient Special Needs Fund at the Tunnell Cancer Center, said Judith Ramirez, Ed.D., clinical social worker at the Cancer Center. This fund has become so important for our patients who experience financial hardship while undergoing treatment for cancer.
