Beebe Medical Center Food Drive Reaps Three Tons of Food for Food Bank
11/12/09
"Employees, volunteers and visitors at Beebe Medical Center overwhelmingly supported the Food Bank of Delaware this week as they collected and donated thousands of non-perishable food items for the organization.
"We ended up with more than 7,000 items,"says organizer and Education Specialist Tara Simpson. "It was a great success for us and for those at the Food Bank who are doing so much to help those in need."
Boxes and bags filled with canned food, boxed pastas, soups, instant meals, pet foods, paper products and other items stacked against the interior walls at the Medical Center's east entrance on Wednesday morning as Mrs. Simpson and the members of the Social Committee prepared for the arrival of the Food Bank of Delaware truck. The Food Bank later reported to Beebe that the total amount of food came to more than three tons.
Members of the Materials Management team showed up with the most items, many of which were conveniently packed in copy paper boxes.
We're definitely going to do this again, Simpson promised. She made a special thanks to all those who collected items and to those who pitched in to load the truck. They included Daniel Gray of the Environmental Services Department; Millard Chullin, Diane Kane and Ron Webster of Security; Beebe volunteer Ron Kennedy; Vicky Card and Maryellen Widdoes of the Medical Staff Office; Rita Corrozi from Benefits, Warren Willey in Materials Management and members of the social committee.
