Beebe Medical Center Celebrates National Radiologic Technology Week
11/10/09
No one knows better than the physicians at Beebe Medical Center of the importance of the staff that performs diagnostic X-rays, ultrasounds, digital mammograms, CT scans, PET scans and the other advanced imaging technologies that aid in the treatment of injuries, illnesses and disease.
Their expertise touches many levels of care throughout the Beebe Medical Center organization, from the Emergency Department where physicians suspect a heart attack or pulmonary embolism, to the Beebe Imaging Center in Millville where an annual digital mammogram is being performed.
Beginning November 8, for one week, Beebe Medical Center team members acknowledged the work of the radiologic technologists, cardiac catheterization technologists, radiation therapists, dosimetrist and all other imaging technologists.
Beebe Medical Center has more than 80 technologists, all registered, and a majority of them registered in advanced modalities, says Barb Myers, Director of Diagnostic Imaging. We are proud of our team and their focus on quality. They have a critical impact on patient care.
Beebe Medical Center's radiologic technologists work at the hospital and at the Beebe outpatient facilities around eastern Sussex County. Tunnell Cancer Center, for example, has a team of 10 radiation therapists who are part of the oncology team.
The professionals in the radiology field play an integral role in the medical process and in saving the lives of millions of patients. National Radiologic Technology Week calls attention to the valuable work of the professionals at Beebe Medical Center and the highly technical images, treatments and treatment plans they achieve, says Janete Mills, MD, a radiation oncologist at the Tunnell Cancer Center.
The National Radiologic Technology Week commemorates the anniversary of Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen's discovery of the X-ray in 1895.
