11/04/09

Beebe Medical Center would like to recognize its perioperative team during National Perioperative Week, which takes place this year from November 9 to November 15.

This is a time to recognize and honor the 150 members of the perioperative team at Beebe Medical Center's main campus in Lewes and at the Beebe Outpatient Surgery Center at the Beebe Health Campus in Rehoboth Beach. They include all those team members who offer care and support to patients who surgery patients. Those professionals are: team members who work in Pre-Admission testing, Registration, Same Day Surgery, the Operating Rooms, the Post Anesthesia Care Units, and Sterile processing.

This years theme is Reaching the Peak of Perioperative Practice, which focuses on the collaboration in advocating safe patient care in the surgical realm. Safety is high on the list of perioperative care and the team focuses on keeping patients safe during this vulnerable time in surgery.

Beebe Medical Center Surgical Services has 46% of its professional staff certified in their respective areas of expertise by a national testing process which demonstrates excellent clinical abilities and a strong commitment to quality patient care and continuing education. Beebe Medical Center congratulations and thanks the entire Surgical Services Team for the excellence they provide everyday.

The Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses initiated Perioperative Week in 1979 to promote education and enhance public knowledge regarding the role in perioperative healthcare. It originally honored the nurses only. However, because so many other healthcare professionals are involved in the support and care of surgical patients, in 2000 the honor was expanded to reflect the broad spectrum of professionals involved.
