Delaware Rep. Schwartzkopf Supports Fundraising Effort for Tunnell Cancer Center
09/11/09
Delaware House Majority Leader Pete Schwartzkopf, D-District 14, spends some time away from his political work to serve as Honorary Chairman of the 10th Annual Jean & Joan Fund Golf Classic.
The golf tournament, which will take place Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the Kings Creek Country Club in Rehoboth Beach, supports Beebe Medical Center's Tunnell Cancer Center. Over the past 10 years, The Jean & Joan Fund has contributed more than $250,000 to the Tunnell Cancer Center and its patients.
It's a good cause, Schwartzkopf said recently while meeting with the committee. The Jean & Joan Fund helps people when they most need it. The Special Needs fund, especially, has made a difference in the lives of so many.
The Jean & Joan Fund, the official charity of the Kings Creek Country Club, has been used to purchase the Tunnell Shuttle, which is used to transport patients to and from the center, medical equipment and to establish the Jean & Joan Fund New Reflections Center at the Tunnell Cancer Center. It also provided the start-up funding for the Tunnell Cancer Center's Patient Special Needs Fund, which is used to purchase specific items for individual cancer patients so that they can stay in cancer treatment.
The entry fee for this year's tournament is $175 for an individual player or $700 for a foursome. It includes green and cart fees, lunch, dinner, prizes and beverages. The event begins at 11 a.m. with registration and lunch. There will be a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. Dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. and includes awards and a silent auction. The Jean & Joan Fund is a 501(c) 3, non-profit organization. The fee is tax deductible, less the fair market value of the event. To register email Jim Martin at jamesmartinjr@gmail.com or call the Kings Creek Country Club Pro-shop at (302) 227-8953.
