Beebe Medical Center Brings Advanced Diagnostic Imaging to South Coastal Area

08/13/09

Beebe Medical Center, to meet the growing demand for healthcare in the south coastal area, is expanding its services at its present location in the Creekside Shopping Center on Route 26 in Millville.

These new advanced diagnostic imaging services, to be fully operational by March 2010, will include CT, MRI, ultrasound and digital mammography. They will represent the first advanced imaging services in the area, and allow residents and visitors to have tests done without having to continue to travel outside of the area. These services also will compliment Beebe Medical Center's outpatient laboratory and physical rehabilitation services already found at the location. With the presence of the free-standing Beebe Medical Center Emergency Center on the same site in the summer season, the expanded services will enable discharged patients to have follow-up studies without having to travel to other communities.

Beebe Medical Center Board of Trustees decided to temporarily locate the expanded services in the Creekside Shopping Center as it became evident that several capital expansion projects would be scaled back or delayed due to the present economy. One of the projects to be delayed is the South Coastal Health Campus, which now is not expected to begin construction until 2012.

We remain committed to the South Coastal Health Campus as the best long-term solution for improving access to care in your area, says Jeffrey M. Fried, President and CEO of Beebe Medical Center. Though we are disappointed that we cannot begin constructing the new health campus this year, we are pleased to bring advanced imaging to the community.

Beebe Medical Center also completed the purchase of the 21-acre parcel on Route 17 at Millville By The Sea that will serve as the site for the South Coastal Health Campus. The purchase is being made with unrestricted assets of the Beebe Medical Foundation.
