Beebe Medical Foundation Elects Paul Mylander Board Chairman

"Beebe Medical Foundation Board is proud to announce that it has elected board member, community leader and Beebe Medical Center advocate Paul H. Mylander, to serve as its Chairman.

Paul has been an important supporter of Beebe, as well as supporter of healthcare education and preventive for our entire community, says the Honorable Eugene D. Bookhammer, who is stepping down from the chairmanship. He has worked tirelessly to raise funds so that Beebe can continue to meet the growing needs of our committee, and has taken on many leadership roles in order to reach our goals.

Mr. Mylander served as chairman of the Beebe Medical Foundation's Vision 2005 Capital Campaign, which raised more than $12.5 million for Beebe Medical Center capital projects. The campaign raised the most money of any campaign in the history of the Foundation.

Three important projects are benefiting from the support raised by the Vision 2005 Campaign: the Outpatient Center on the Beebe Health Campus, the Central Utility Building and the $35 million Joseph R. Hudson Wing that opened in 2008. Together the projects represented $60 million in construction costs.

Mr. Mylander was appointed to the Beebe Foundation Board in 2002 and has served ever since, and has been an active participate in the finance committee, as well as fundraising events. Mr. Mylander also is a member of the Beebe Medical Center Board of Directors, and has served as Treasurer since 2003, the year he joined the Board.

"I am proud and honored to be elected by my peers to lead our Foundation," Mr. Mylander says. "Our work is so important to the future of Beebe and to the quality and accessibility of healthcare in our community."

Mr. Mylander moved to Delaware in 1990, after working for 20 years in the financial services industry in the Washington D.C.- Metropolitan area, to serve as President and CEO of Delaware National Bank. In 1995, the bank became a subsidiary of Fulton Financial Corporation of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Mr. Mylander was later named Chairman and CEO of that organization, retiring in 2005. Mr. Mylander came out of retirement the following year to serve as Senior Advisor and Board member of The Bank of Delmarva, where he continues to serve on the loan and marketing committee and the executive committee. Mr. Mylander has been a leader in the banking community, serving in such capacities as Chairman of the Community Bank Advisory Council of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, a board member of the Independent Community Bankers of America and two terms as president of the Delaware Bankers Association.

Besides his involvement with Beebe Medical Center, Mr. Mylander has been a supporter and advocate for the American Heart Association for 12 years. He is a past president of the Sussex County Division of the American Heart Association, Delaware Affiliate, and past chairman of the American Heart Association, Delaware Affiliate. He has recently been honored as the 2009 recipient of the organization's Lifetime Achievement Award. He serves on the board of the Delaware State Chamber, and has served on the boards of the Lewes Chamber and the Georgetown Chamber, and has been active in Rotary International, and was chairman of a capital campaign for the non-profit Sussex County Senior Services, Inc. (CHEER).

Mr. Mylander served in the U.S. Army as a commissioned officer after graduation from East Tennessee State University. After a tour in Vietnam, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Joint Service Commendation Medal.
