Beebe Medical Center Welcomes Physician to its Medical Staff

William W. Harless, M.D., PhD, a medical oncologist/hematologist and research scientist, has joined the Beebe Medical Staff and is seeing patients at Tunnell Cancer Center.

Dr. Harless is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology and hopes to expand his research program from where it is located at West Virginia University to include Tunnell Cancer Center. He has published several articles in medical journals on cancer, and is investigating a new approach to cancer treatment. On the basis of his research discoveries, Dr. Harless has filed for two patents: One on how to target cancer cells perioperatively, and a second patent on a molecular test that can predict cancer patients at high risk for relapse after surgical removal of the primary tumor.

Dr. Harless earned his PhD in Biological Sciences from the University of Texas in Austin before earning his medical degree from the University of Texas in Galveston. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at University of Illinois where he also taught in the Department of Pathology and Internal Medicine. Dr. Harless completed a fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at West Virginia University and went on to work as a hematologist and oncologist at Vidalia Regional Cancer Center in Vidalia, Georgia.

Tunnell Cancer Center was established in 1995. It has received the Commission on Cancer's highest accreditation with commendation as a comprehensive community cancer center. Its clinical specialties are medical oncology/hematology and radiation oncology. Nearly 200 patients visit the center each day.
