Motorcycle Ride Planned for May 30 to Raise Funds for the Delaware Burn Camp

05/08/09

An all-day, fundraising event that features the 60-mile Poker Run motorcycle ride will take place, Saturday, May 30, at the American Legion Post 24, Route 26 West and Route 113, in Dagsboro. The day will include live bands, a live auction, food and vendors. Chicken dinners are available for $6 a person for those not taking part in the ride. The public is encouraged to attend.

The event is raising funds for children to attend the Delaware Burn Camp, Delaware's first summer camp devoted especially to burn victims. It designed for Delaware residents between the ages of 6 and 18 so that they can enjoy camp activities that meet their special needs and remain in their home state. The camp will use the Camp Barnes' facilities near Bethany Beach, and offer such activities as hiking, kayaking, canoeing, horseback riding and arts and crafts. This year the camp will take place from August 17 to 23.

The Poker Ride is sponsored by the American Legion Riders Post 24. Director Dennis Daniels expects between 400 to 500 bikers to take part and hopes to raise $10,000. Registration for the ride is from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and costs $15 a person and $25 a couple. Riders will take the tour around the Sussex County countryside, arriving back about 2 p.m. Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third winners.

There also will be the 5th Annual Muskrat Run Mike Gray, also in memory of Mike Moore. A rain date of June 6 has been established.
