Screenings
Free Glucose Screenings
Every Wednesday at Three Locations
1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.
No appointments are necessary. The results of these screenings can indicate whether a patient needs to see a physician for evaluation for diabetes. They are not intended for diabetes management.

Diabetic Foot Screening
In order to increase awareness of the potential for foot problems in persons with diabetes, Beebe Medical Center's Diabetes Management Department will offer a Free Diabetic Foot Examination at the Long Neck Health Center, just South of Route 24 on Long Neck Road, on selected Wednesdays: May 20, June 17, August 19, and September 16, from 12:30 pm - 4:30 pm.

This foot screening is for individuals with diabetes who do not have podiatry care. Participants also will receive education on daily foot care, proper footwear, and problems requiring treatment. To register, or for more information on diabetes education, please call (302) 947-2500.

Support Groups
Caregivers' Support Group
Third Thursday of Each Month
A support group for caregivers of those with Alzheimer's disease and related diseases meets at The Gull House (Bay Mart Shopping Center, opposite Spring Lake, Rehoboth). For further information, please call Kathleen Graham Frey at (302) 226-2160.

Fibromyalgia Support Group

Mended Hearts Support Group
First Town Mended Hearts -- Chapter 344 - a support group for heart patients and their families. Meets every 3rd Tuesday at 2pm at the McCurry Conference Center in the Medical Arts Building, next to Tunnel Cancer Center on John J. Williams Highway. Stroke Support Group
A stroke support group meets from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on the 4th Thursday of the month at Tunnell Cancer Center, 18947 John J. Williams Highway in Rehoboth Beach. The group provides support to stroke survivors, care partners, spouses and friends. It provides education and resources to maximize participation in home and community. Classes
CPR -- ACLS - PALS
Beebe Medical Center offers CPR, ACLS (advanced cardiac life support), and PALS (pediatric advanced life support) classes. CPR courses are offered every 3rd Tuesday of the month. Health Care Provider recertification is offered from 9 a.m. -- 1 p.m. and Heartsaver AED is offered from 1:30 -- 5:30 pm. Courses are $50 each. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) are offered as 1 day recertification ($110) and 2 day certification ($200) courses.
Please note that a current CPR card and basic knowledge of dysrhythmia interpretation are prerequisites for ACLS and PALS courses. All class fees include the cost of the required manual(s) (American Heart Association requires that the student has the course manual prior to the start of the course) and the appropriate AHA certification card.

Diabetes
Diabetes educational programs are offered three times each month for persons newly diagnosed and those who need a refresher course for managing their disease. An 8-hour diabetes self-management education series is presented as four 2-hour classes or as two 4-hour classes each month. Both provide the ADA standard curriculum for healthy eating, increasing activity, monitoring blood glucose, taking medications, healthy coping, problem solving, and preventing complications. Meditation and Hand Drumming
3 p.m., May 5, Epworth United Methodist Church, 19285 Holland Glade Road, Rehoboth Beach. The instructor is Cheyenne Luzader, MS, Integrative Health Coordinator at Beebe Medical Center. Free; sponsored by Beebe Medical Center Integrative Health.

25th Annual Families, Individuals, and Community Conference
"Healthy Communities Start With You"
The conference will take place 8:30 a.m., May 1, at the Carter Partnership Center, Delaware Technical & Community College, Georgetown, with sponsorship from Beebe Medical Center.

The key note speaker is Karyl Thomas Rattay, MD, MS, innovator of the Five, Two, One, Almost None program. She is a Pediatric Preventive Medicine Physician at
Nemours Health and Prevention Services, Newark, Delaware. The conference includes workshops, learning activities, panel discussions and health screenings plus many exhibitors. The fee is $35 which includes lunch.
