Jean & Joan Funds Presents $30,000 to Tunnell Cancer Center

02/10/09

The Jean & Joan Fund committee recently presented Beebe Medical Center's Tunnell Cancer Center with a check for $30,000 to be used for patient care. The funds were raised at the ninth annual Jean & Joan Fund Golf Classic that took place on October 7, 2008, at Kings Creek Country Club in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. The event was a success with 75 golfers and 20 local and national sponsors.

The Jean & Joan Fund was established in memory of Jean James and Joan Martin, two women who lost their valiant battle with cancer. During their final months, both women were surrounded by families that loved and cared for them and a circle of friends who generously gave their time and support.

It is most important that people going through these trying times receive all the physical and spiritual support available, says organization Chairman and Founder Jim Martin. The goal of the Jean & Joan Fund is to assist the Tunnell Cancer Center in providing care and comfort for patients and their families.

The Jean & Joan Fund has contributed a total of $250,000 since its first tournament in 2000. These donation have been used to purchase two vans to carry needy patients to their treatments and for screening; a wall for the healing garden; funding of a patient Special Needs Fund; the Jean & Joan New Reflection Center and Library; for wheelchairs, stretchers, and an examination table; and, emergency diagnostic equipment. The Jean & Joan Fund was the official charity of the King's Creek Country Club since its inception, and reflects the club's commitment to the local community.

The 2009 Jean & Joan Fund golf tournament has been scheduled for Tuesday October 6, at Kings Creek Country Club. It will be the tenth anniversary event and plans are under way to celebrate it in a special way and honor present and past sponsors and donors. More information about the tournament, and advanced reservations can be obtained by contacting Jim Martin via email at jamesjmartinjr@gmail.com
