Dr. Maribel Garcia Opens a Medical Office in Milton

02/03/09

For internal medicine specialist Maribel Garcia, MD, working in a new office in Milton means she has an opportunity to bring quality healthcare to more people.

Milton is a wonderful place, says Dr. Garcia, who had an office in the area from 1996 to 2000. I am so glad to be back and serving this welcoming community.

Dr. Garcia will work three days a week at the office, conveniently located in the Milton Park Center, the same center in which the Food Lion is located. The address is 124 Broadkill Road, and the unit is between Family Dollar and Subway. She is joining Maria Lourdes Haldar, MD, also a specialist in internal medicine. Both physicians are members of the Beebe Medical Staff and specialize in Internal Medicine, a branch of medicine that deals with the diagnosis and nonsurgical treatment of diseases affecting the internal organs of the body, especially those in adults. The physicians treat patients 18 years of age and above. The office can be reached at the telephone number of (302) 684-2033. Their fax number is (302) 684-2036.

To better serve the community, their office will extend its normal hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, by opening a Saturday morning walk-in clinic, no appointments necessary, and by remaining open Wednesday and Thursday evenings until 7 p.m.

Dr. Garcia, who has been a physician in Delaware since 1990, has helped many in Sussex County. She worked in occupational health at Perdue, and served as the Medical Director of the School Wellness Clinics at Indian River and Sussex Center high schools. She also served as the Medical Director for the Millville Weekend Walk-in; and she worked in a medical office in Millsboro with Paul Gorrin, MD.

Dr. Garcia continues to serve as Medical Director of the Delmarva Rural Ministries, a federally qualified health center for the uninsured in Dover. She also serves as an ordained pastor with her husband Ennio Zaragoza at the Maranatha Christian Bilingual Church in Dover.

I believe in a comprehensive holistic approach to medicine, she says. I emphasize preventive healthcare and patient education.

Dr. Garcia also performs minor surgeries in the office such as removal of warts and skin lesions, and suturing wounds.

Patients with potentially life-threatening illnesses and injuries are reminded that they should call 911.

Dr. Garcia earned her medical degree at the Univsidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Urena School of Medicine in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. She completed her residency in internal medicine at St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center in Youngstown, Ohio. Dr. Garcia lives in Dover with her husband and their youngest son Eli-Dan. Their oldest son Ennio is away at university.
