Beebe's Treasure Chest Thrift Shop Doubles in Size
12/29/08
Beebe's Treasure Chest Thrift Shop, located in the Midway Shopping Mall along Route 1 in Rehoboth Beach, has doubled in size, meeting the needs of many shoppers looking for great buys and gently used items.
The shop, opened in February 2007, has been a fundraising success for Beebe Medical Center, aiding the Beebe Auxiliary in its tireless effort to support the medical center and the healthcare that it brings to the community.
The little shop that was squeezed into a store front at the back of the shopping center has spilled into the space next door, expanding the area for more furniture, house wares, and clothing items. Children's clothing, dungarees and sweatshirts, pajamas and jackets, fill large plastic tubs. Shelves are stacked with glassware, pitchers, and candle holders. A chandelier hugs a corner as nearby lamps wait for new homes.
There are children's books and adult books in one corner, and costume jewelry in a glass display case in the center of a room. A clothing rack holds gently worn women's evening wear. Racks separate men's and women's clothing, which are carefully sized to make eye-catchers easier to find.
With the closing of the Salvation Army store, we've become even busier, says shop Manager Ed Noyalis. We continue to receive so many wonderful items that are donated by people who support Beebe. The community has been phenomenal.
Mr. Noyalis said that as business has grown, so has the army of volunteers who help at the shop, sorting, hanging up and putting away items, and waiting on customers.
The Thrift Shop and its many dedicated, selfless volunteers far surpassed all expectations that were placed on the store, Mr. Noyalis said.
Beebe's Treasure Chest Thrift Shop is operated by the Beebe Medical Center Auxiliary, Inc., and staffed by volunteers. Individuals and businesses throughout the community have contributed all of the items that are available for sale. The Treasure Chest Thrift Shop is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. To make arrangements for the pick up of large items please call Mr. Noyalis at 644-2878.
