The Beebe Medical Center CHAP Program Relocates
12/23/08
The Beebe Medical Center Community Healthcare Access Program (CHAP) has relocated from the free-standing building at the corner of West Fourth Street and Savannah Avenue in Lewes onto the Beebe Medical Center campus at 424 Savannah Road. The CHAP offices are in the brick building behind the hospital that previously housed the Lewes Convalescent Center, which has become administrative offices.
Clients can reach the office by turning into the driveway of Beebe Medical Center's West Entrance and traveling past the parking structure where the brick building is located. For more information, contact CHAP coordinator Michelle Becket-Soloh at (302) 645-3167, or CHAP coordinator Evelyn Ramos at (302) 645-3168.
We look forward to continuing to serve our clients in our new location, says Peggy Diehl, RN, MSN, CEN, Community Health Nurse Manager and who oversees the CHAP program at Beebe Medical Center. She can be reached at (302) 645-3337.
CHAP assists uninsured Delaware residents who meet specific financial requirements to obtain preventive healthcare, as well as medical services at an affordable cost. The discounts are based on the residents' income and ability to pay. The Delaware Health Care Commission administers the program with funding support from the Delaware Tobacco Settlement Funds.
CHAP coordinators determine patients' eligibility and then enroll them in any one of a number of medical assistance programs, including discounted services offered by Beebe Medical Center. Their normal process is to screen everyone for Medicaid and other state and private programs. Beebe CHAP coordinators have numerous resources for their eligible patients, including such programs as the state's Cancer Treatment Program, Prenatal Care and Smart Start High Risk Pregnancy, Diabetes Emergency Fund, Epilepsy Foundation, Arthritis Foundation, and National Center for Farm Worker Health. Affordable physician services are available through the Voluntary Initiative Program (VIP) that can be accessed through CHAP. This program, made up of a network of private physicians, was created by the Medical Society of Delaware and is administered by the Delaware Foundation for Medical Services.
Beebe Medical Center is a not-for-profit community medical center with a charitable mission to encourage healthy living, prevent illness, and restore optimal health with the people residing, working, or visiting in the communities we serve.
