Beebe School of Nursing Faculty Member Earns Certification

08/27/08

Beebe School of Nursing announces that Joy A. Bartell, MSN, RN, OCN, CNE, has earned the designation of Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) after successfully completing a rigorous certification examination developed and administered by the National League of Nursing.

Ms. Bartell, a member of the faculty since 2000, is a registered nurse and is certified in Oncology Nursing. She serves as a course coordinator and a member of several faculty committees, including the Evening/Weekend Program committee. Ms. Bartell joined Beebe Medical Center in 1986 and worked on the medical surgical floor and in oncology before taking over as the Director of the Oncology Service Line and Oncology Clinical Coordinator prior to joining the faculty of Beebe School of Nursing.

Ms Bartell was inducted into Delaware's Hall of Fame for Women in March 2003, and was named the Delaware Student Nursing Association's Teacher of the Year. She also has been the recipient of the American Cancer Society's National Ruby Lifesaver's Award.

The National League of Nursing unveiled the Academic Nurse Educator Certification Program in 2005 to establish and recognize nursing education as a specialty area of practice. By March of 2008, a total of 954 nurse educators, representing every state, had earned the CNE credential with an overall pass rate 83 percent.

The Certified Nurse Educator program has conferred new visibility upon the academic nursing community, long overdue, says Dr. Beverly Malone, CEO of the National League of Nurses.

Certification in any practice area is a mark of professionalism. We celebrate with Joy as she initiated the recognition of Nursing Education at Beebe School of Nursing as a specialty and commitment to excellence and expertise.

The Beebe School of Nursing, based at Beebe Medical Center, is the only hospital-based nursing program in Delaware, and is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). The diploma in Nursing is awarded at the completion of the curriculum, qualifying Beebe graduates to be eligible for National Council of State Boards of Nursing NCLEX examination, leading to licensure. Beebe graduates have one of the highest NCLEX pass rates in the state.
