07/03/08
Beebe Medical Center announces that Marie Berntsen, RN, ONC, has been named Director of the Orthopaedic Service Line. She will be responsible for the orthopaedic patient education and inpatient care services at Beebe Medical Center, and will report to Vendla Esler, RN, Vice President of Patient Care Services.
Mrs. Berntsen has been at Beebe Medical Center for 17 years. She worked in Orthopaedics for 12 years, and then five years ago, she took over as Coordinator of the Service Line, and has been in charge of the patient education program.
In 2007, Mrs. Berntsen earned her Orthopaedic Nursing Certification and became Board-certified, according to the Orthopaedic Nurses Certification Board. The Board is a member of the American Board of Nursing Specialties, which advocates consumer protection by establishing specialty-nursing certification. The Certification recognizes her as being proficient in orthopaedic nursing, and for using theory in planning and implementing nursing care. To become a Certified Orthopaedic Nurse, the candidate must meet all eligibility criteria at the time of application and successfully pass the certification examination.
During the past two years, HeathGrades has rated Beebe Medical Center's Orthopaedic services among the top in the nation. For 2008, Beebe Medical Center was the only hospital in the Delmarva Peninsula (including Delaware), to be ranked by HealthGrades in the top 10 percent in the nation for Overall Orthopaedic Care.
"We welcome Marie's experience and expertise to this role," Esler says. "She has worked hard to help make our Orthopedic Services the quality program that it is today, and we are proud that she is a member of our team."
