Camp for Children with Asthma Still Accepting Participants

06/24/08

Beebe Medical Center announces that a schedule of fun and safe activities has been planned for Spacer Camp, to take place July 7 to July 11 at the University of Delaware's Virden Center in Lewes.

This unique, weeklong day camp, sponsored by the American Lung Association and Beebe Medical Center, is specifically designed to accommodate children between the ages of 7 and 11 that suffer from asthma. The camp is designed to teach the children how to deal with their asthma in a fun filled, safe environment way.

Campers will be able to take part in several programs at Cape Henlopen State Park, including those at the Nature Center. They can participate in chaperoned visits to Midway Park, Funland and Lewes Beach. At the same time, they will receive lessons on diet, exercise, and disease management under the instruction of on-site physicians, nurses, and respiratory therapists through an integrated asthma education program.

Drop-off time is 730 a.m. each day and pick-up time is 5 p.m. For more information or to sign up a child, please contact Beebe Medical Center Respiratory Therapists Angela Lindale, RRT, or Lynnette Klopp, RRT, at (302) 645-3161, or email Asthmacamp@bbmc.org.
