Beebe Medical Center Offers Patients Creative Way to Stay Connected to Family

05/22/08

Beebe Medical Center patients, their families, and even those who live in distant communities can now find a convenient way to stay connected with one another.

Beebe Medical Center is pleased to announce that it offers its patients free access to CarePages, healthcare's largest communication network via the Internet. By using CarePages at the hospital bedside, Beebe Medical Center patients or their families are able to quickly and conveniently create a personal and secure website in which families and friends can share health updates, important messages and photographs, as well as send gifts. The secure web page can be used for a special event, such as the birth of a child, as well as for a long-term illness where communication is vital for the emotional well being of the hospitalized patient.

"CarePages is a wonderful resource for our many out-of-town families to stay connected with their loved one," says Ellen Tolbert, Beebe Medical Center Director, Patient Relations, who manages the CarePages account for Beebe. "I think it will be a great service for new parents, elective surgery patients and those in a long course of treatment."

The CarePages website also has resources to help patients and their families cope with the emotional challenges of a health event, including tools to meet others in similar situations, and practical tips and advice on what to do during the stressful period when someone is ill or injured. The website also has a component that allows users to create memory books and baby books to share with loved ones.

The Beebe Medical Center CarePages website and has a "care compliment" feature that provides an easy way to recognize Beebe Medical Center team members and medical staff, as well as easy access to the Beebe gift shop.

Patients and their families can create their own CarePage by visiting www.carepages.com/beebemed and then clicking on "Create a CarePage." As an added benefit, Beebe Medical Center has installed a wireless Internet system in the hospital so that patients and family members can use their own laptops to access the website. There also will be a kiosk in the visitor waiting area in the new Critical Care Unit at Beebe Medical Center where computers will be available. CarePages.com is secure and compliant with all U.S. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements. It ensures that patients, families and healthcare providers are protected online through strict privacy policies, password-protection and visitor management tools for CarePage managers.
