Holiday of Lights Raised $9,660 for Beebe's Community Health Programs
01/29/08
The Beebe Medical Foundation is pleased to announce that the 12th Annual Holiday of Lights celebration on November 29, 2007, raised $9,660 to support Beebe Medical Center's Community Health programs.
"We wish to thank the community for taking part in this celebration and for sponsoring the Christmas tree lights that honored and remembered family, friends and loved ones," said Alex Sydnor, Executive Director of the Beebe Medical Foundation. "The celebration has become a holiday tradition in Lewes, and one that means so much to so many people."
The event, which takes place on the grounds of Beebe Medical Center, includes caroling and a visit by Santa Claus. The highlight of the evening is the lighting of the tree, which stays lit throughout the season. Each light has been sponsored in honor of a friend or family member. Each year a different Beebe Medical Center program is named to receive the funds. The Community Health programs were earmarked this year as Beebe Medical Center continues to expand its outreach and educational efforts in preventive care and early diagnosis of disease and illness including cancer, diabetes and heart disease. Community Health also focuses on the healthcare needs of the underserved populations.
"Our Community Health team, led by Community Health Nurse Coordinator Peggy Diehl, is focused on getting those in our community screened for cancer, diabetes and heart disease and to make sure that they are aware of the availability of care," said Mark Thompson, Director of Public Relations and Community Health. "Part of our role also is to help people access financial assistance when necessary."
