The 5th Annual Seaside Oncology Symposium Takes Place October 6, 2007

The Fifth Annual Seaside Oncology Symposium will take place Saturday, October 6, at the Boardwalk Plaza Hotel in Rehoboth Beach.

Tunnell Cancer Center and the Medical Society of Delaware sponsor the event. The goal of this half-day conference is to update participants on the diagnosis and management of cancer. Its emphasis will be on the current standard of care for lung cancer, breast cancer, HIPEC and its impact on survivorship and quality of life.

The symposium is designed for physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals who work with cancer patients.

Pramod Vadlamani, MD, a medical oncologist at Tunnell Cancer Center, will give the opening remarks at 7:45 a.m.

Suresh Ramalingam, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine at University of Pittsburgh, Division of Hematology and Oncology, will speak on "Standard of Care and Treatment Approaches for Lung Cancer."

Jesus Esquivel, MD, Director, Peritoneal Surface Malignancies Program, St. Agnes Hospital, Baltimore, will speak on "HIPEC (Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy) Impact on Survivorship and QOL."

Ashraf Badras, MD, Associate Professor of Medicine, University of Maryland, Greenebaum Cancer Center, will speak on "Advances in Multiple Myeloma."

Sandra Swain, MD, Medical Director, Washington Cancer Institute, Washington Hospital Center, Washington D.C., will speak on "Current Treatment for Breast Cancer."

The conference, which begins at 7:30 a.m. and ends with a lunch at 1 p.m., has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint-sponsorship of the Medical Society of Delaware and Beebe Medical Center. The Medical Society of Delaware is accredited by the ACCME to provide CME activities for physicians.

The Seaside Oncology Symposium is supported by unrestricted educational grants from various pharmaceutical companies and programs. Grant applications are pending approval, thus acknowledgement and announcement of support will be made the day of the conference.
