Beebe Medical Center Auxiliary Presents Medical Center with $150,000

he Beebe Medical Center Auxiliary presented to Beebe Medical Center a check in the amount of $150,000 from funds it has raised during the past year from its many fundraising activities.

Auxiliary President Pat Sandy made the presentation to Jeffrey M. Fried, President and CEO of Beebe Medical Center, at the organization's annual luncheon. Janet McCarty, Chair of the Beebe Board of Directors, was present during the ceremony.

This year's donation will be used for the Tunnell Cancer Center, which opened in its new and larger facility October 2006 at the Beebe Health Campus on John J. Williams Highway (Route 24) in Rehoboth Beach. Since 1992, the Auxiliary has given more than $1.4 million to the Medical Center to help support its many programs and services.

During the luncheon, Florence Wingate, who died March 3, 2007, was remembered for the more than 20 years of service she gave to Beebe Medical Center as an Auxiliary Member. Mrs. Wingate served for many years as Auxiliary Treasurer.

Several special guests attending the luncheon were recognized for the support they have given to the Auxiliary. They were: Janet Zary, Printer; Alex Sydnor, Executive Director of the Beebe Medical Foundation; Becky McCarty, Volunteer Services Coordinator; Mike Clemmer, past Executive Director of the Beebe Medical Foundation; Toni Ford, Executive Assistant to Donna Streletzky, Vice President of Operations; and Margaret McVey, Administrative Assistant, Plant Engineering.

Auxiliary President Pat Sandy kicked off the event by welcoming the more than 80 people who attended. Beebe Medical Center Chaplain The Rev. Keith Goheen gave the invocation. Mr. Fried gave updates on the Cardiac Surgery and Interventional Cardiology programs, as well as on the Emergency Department expansion and on the Tunnell Cancer Center.

Jan McCarty also spoke, and thanked everyone for coming. Special thanks was given to Sarah Ortolani, Joan Wentzel, Ginger Snowden, Joan Brown and Henrietta Belcher-Stack for arranging the luncheon.
