Beebe Medical Center to Hold Free Stroke Risk Asssessment
05/01/07
Beebe Medical Center, in conjunction with the American Heart Association, will host a free Stroke Risk Assessment on Thursday, May 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Wal-Mart on Route 1 in Rehoboth Beach.
There is no need to schedule an appointment. In just a few minutes, a nurse can identify a person's risk for a stroke. Those attending will receive education pertaining to the warning signs and ways to reduce their chances of stroke.
According to the American Heart Association, Stroke is the No. 3 killer and the No. 1 disabler of Americans. Every 60 seconds someone suffers a stroke. Every 3 minutes someone dies from a stroke. Stroke needs to be treated with the same sense of urgency as a heart attack. Because of this, the new terminology for stroke is "Brain Attack." Early intervention can minimize brain injury and preventive care may reduce the risk of stroke.
For any questions concerning the event, call Ginny Rickards at the Beebe School of Nursing at (302) 645-3251, ext. 5468.
