Beebe Medical Foundation Names New Executive Director
03/06/07
The Board of Directors of the Beebe Medical Foundation announces that Alex Sydnor will take over as Executive Director for the Beebe Medical Foundation effective April 2 when Executive Director Michael Clemmer retires.
He will assume overall responsibility for all of the ongoing operations of the Foundation. They include: Events such as the Art Auction, Thanksgiving Ball and Holiday of Lights Tree Lighting; the Beebe Annual Fund; planned giving and programmatic fundraising; and any future capital campaigns.
"I am pleased to have the opportunity to help build a development program that will support Beebe Medical Center in its goal of providing the best healthcare available to our growing communities," said Mr. Sydnor.
As part of the Foundation's management transition, Mr. Sydnor already is here in Lewes, working together with Mr. Clemmer and the Foundation Board in preparing for future strategic development programs following the conclusion of the successful Vision 2005 Capital Campaign in which more than $12 million was raised.
Sydnor has more than 22 years experience as a development professional. He has most recently served as the Director for Development at Winterthur Museum and Country Estate in Wilmington, Delaware, where he has been responsible for major individual gifts, corporate sponsorship, foundation grants, and membership. Winterthur, the 19th-century, former home of Henry Francis du Pont, receives more than $5 million each year in philanthropic support for its operations and ongoing capital needs. Sydnor served at Winterthur from 2001 until the present, and became actively involved in the Delaware community.
A Californian, Sydnor began his career in development in 1985 with San Jose Repertory Theater in San Jose, California. He later became Director of Development at San Jose State University. In 1996, he joined the University of California, Santa Cruz, where he became Executive Director for Development and helped raise the level of awareness and philanthropic support for the university's teaching and research programs.
"We are pleased that Mr. Sydnor will take over this important assignment," said The Honorable Eugene Bookhammer, Chairman of the Beebe Foundation Board of Directors. "He brings to Beebe a wealth of experience in the development profession and an appreciation of Delaware and the needs of our growing population."
"The Beebe team welcomes Mr. Sydnor and looks forward to working with him to increase the philanthropic support for Beebe Medical Center," said Jeffrey M. Fried, President and CEO of Beebe Medical Center.
