Student Nurses Complete Beebe's Nurse Extern Program

08/10/06

Nursing students from throughout the Delmarva Region recently celebrated the conclusion of their Extern Program at Beebe Medical Center. This year 19 students from a variety of nursing programs participated in the eight-week program that allowed them to learn firsthand about the nursing profession. The students worked in various areas of the Hospital to gain further clinical experience and better determine which areas of nursing most interests them. They will return to school in August to complete their final year of study before graduating in May.

"The final summer before completing nursing education is the ideal time for students to explore which type of clinical setting they want to work in when they graduate," said Connie Bushey, Director of the Beebe School of Nursing. "The Nurse Extern Program gives them this opportunity, and refines and develops clinical skills and decision making for the nursing practice"
