Beebe Medical Center Receives Grant from Delaware Community Foundation
07/19/06
R. Michael Clemmer, Executive Director Beebe Medical Foundation, is pleased to announce Beebe Medical Center is the recipient of a grant for $15,000 from the Delaware Community Foundation (DCF). This is one of 23 grants for capital projects totaling $261,100 awarded this year by the DCF to Delaware nonprofit organizations.
The DCF grant will help support the construction of a new, 30,850-square-foot facility located at Beebe Medical Center's Health Campus on Route 24. The Tunnell Cancer Center's programs and services will be relocated to the new location.
Only ten years after the opening of the Tunnell Cancer Center on the Lewes Campus it has already out grown that facility, said Jeffrey M. Fried, President and CEO of Beebe Medical Center. This new facility located on the Beebe's Campus, west of Route 1, will not only make patient access easier, but also will permit the expansion of services to meet the dramatic increase in demand for oncology services and provide for long-term expansion.
The new facility will allow the Tunnell Cancer Center to continue to provide coordinated, comprehensive and aggressive cancer care, community screenings, education and family services to a much larger population. It will further allow Beebe's outreach program to minorities to expand and continue Beebe Medical Center's mission to reduce the health disparities that exist for minority populations.
The Delaware Community Foundation is a nonprofit community organization that manages charitable funds for individuals, families, businesses and organizations and distributes the income from the funds as grant to many of the humanitarian, education, health and cultural organizations in Delaware. The DCF also works with other nonprofit organizations to assess and meet community needs. Funding for the Capital grants comes from the State of Delaware Fund, which was created in 1989 with a $2 million grant from the State, and other DCF funds. Contributions to unrestricted funds give the Delaware Community Foundation the resources and flexibility to respond to the changing needs of the community, now and in the future.
