Beebe To Celebrate Volunteer Week, April 24 to 28
04/07/06
Beebe Medical Center will recognize its volunteers with some special events throughout the hospital during National Volunteer Week, to take place April 24 to April 28.
Our theme this year will be Volunteers&A Vital Piece of The Puzzle,' said Volunteer Coordinator Becky McCarty. Our volunteers are very dedicated, providing a tremendous service. They truly make a difference, not only to us, but to our patients, their families and visitors, as well as to the team members of Beebe Medical Center.
McCarty has prepared a series of displays to be set up near the service elevators in the main building in Lewes that highlight the jobs that the volunteers do. Various departments will be recognizing their volunteers throughout the week with activities such as lunches and gift certificates. Volunteer Services also will give a token gift to each volunteer.
A few of their duties of the volunteers include helping patients and visitors at the Greeter desk, cashiering in the Sunshine Cafe, volunteering in the gift shop, assisting the patients by serving refreshments as well as assisting staff in the Tunnell Cancer Center. They also assist patients getting in/out of their vehicles who are coming to the Emergency Department, to have tests done or to receive treatments. There are many volunteers who help with all the behind-the-scene tasks that must be done, such as work in the Storeroom and clerical duties in the various offices.
Beebe has an average of 200 volunteers per month. In 2005, collectively they gave 37,379 hours of their time.
