Beebe Volunteer and Award-winning Poet Donald Wagner to Hold Book Signing
03/28/06
Donald Wagner, an award-winning poet and one of Beebe's Guiding Light volunteers, has just published his fourth book of poetry, Spoken Words, which will be available at Beebe Medical Center during a book signing from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., Thursday, April 6 and Friday, April 7.
It's my longest book with 117 poems about everything you could think of, said Mr. Wagner, who will donate the proceeds of his book to the Beebe Medical Foundation.
So far, Wagner has donated more than $3,100 in proceeds from his first three poetry books to the Vision 2005 Capital Campaign, which ended in December 2005.
Mr. Wagner dedicated Spoken Words to his two granddaughters Jan Marie and Chelsey Lynn Wagner for inspiring him to keep writing, and for being important in his life. Jan created the artwork for the front and back covers. One painting is a colorful acrylic of a gorilla. The other is a colorful, colored pencil drawing of two parrots. The original artwork will be on display at the book signing. Jan Wagner, 19, is a student at Delaware Technical & Community College and is studying to become a teacher through the parallel program with Wilmington College. Chelsey Lynn Wagner, 13, wrote the first poem in the book entitled John Milton, which earned a second place in a local poetry contest.
In 2004, The International Society of Poets honored Don Wagner with an award for his first poem, My Angel. In the poem, Wagner wrote about a visit by an angel on the night before Christmas. The angel wore the wedding band that belonged to his late wife Christine who passed away in 1995. It was his wife Christine who inspired his writing, and the care given to her by Beebe Medical Center that has made him an avid medical center supporter. Mr. Wagner also is a member of the Lewes Men's Chorus.
All four of Mr. Wagner's books will be available at the book signing for $20 per copy. Spoken Words normally sells for $24.95. The signing will take place near the gift shop in the main hallway at Beebe Medical Center on Savannah Road in Lewes.
