Beebe To Host Popular Community Heart Fair

01/31/06

For the second year in a row, Beebe Medical Center will host the Community Heart Fair, to take place on Tuesday, February 21, 2006, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center.

Lieutenant Governor John Carney once again will serve as the Honorary Event Chairman. Both he and Beebe Medical Center President and CEO Jeffrey M. Fried will provide opening remarks at 10 a.m. Presenting sponsors are local cardiology practices Cardiology Consultants P.A. and Delaware Cardiovascular Associates.

We had such tremendous response from the community last year, with more than 1,000 people attending, that we decided to hold the Heart Fair again, making it an annual event, said Fried. Heart disease is a serious problem in our nation and in our community and we want to do whatever we can to help battle this disease.

The 2nd annual Community Heart Fair on February 21 will feature free, potentially life-saving screenings including blood pressure checks, cholesterol screenings, body fat measurement and glucose screenings. The event also will include educational health displays from Beebe and other community organizations, as well as food, entertainment and giveaways.

This year's health education event coincides with the kick-off of Beebe Medical Center's new Cardiovascular program that will include interventional cardiology and open heart surgery. That program is scheduled to begin later this year.
