Beebe Recognizes Employees With "You Make a Difference" Award
01/12/06
Beebe Medical Center is pleased to announce and congratulate its most recent You Make A Difference award recipients: Rita Rickards and Janice Spencer.
Rita Rickards, Unit Secretary in the Third-Floor Medical Surgical Unit, is the recipient for January.
The staff of the Third-Floor Medical Surgical Unit, together with many Beebe Medical Center physicians, collectively nominated Rickards for the award. You are a mentor, a cheerleader and a friend to all who come in contact with you was written about her.
Rickards, a 30-year Beebe Medical Center veteran, was cited for &being calm in crisis, patient in service and inspirational in dealing with the staff. She also was cited for her selfless acts of kindness towards team members, and of initiating the collection of children's videotapes for the pediatric unit.
She also was described as someone who &makes sure that everyone has the resources they need, and that &the compassion you bring to the workplace is infectious.
Janice Spencer, a Transporter, was honored with the December award.
Nancy L. Cummings, Community Relations Specialist, nominated Spencer for the award because she is someone who can be depended upon to help patients, visitors and staff, and always with a smile.
Janice is someone who cares about the employees, patients and visitors to Beebe, Nancy wrote. If you watch Janice, you will see a positive attitude, from transporting a new mom and baby, to a scared child visiting the hospital for the first time, to an elderly person heading home -- a smile is always present.
Nancy also cited Janice's many efforts to help raise funds for those in need. For example, she took the lead during the horrific aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and started a collection for Habitat for Humanity. She personally collected more than $1,000 toward this effort. She also voluntarily collected donations from our nursing units for the Beebe Medical Foundation Vision 2005 campaign.
Beebe Medical Center's You Make A Difference employee recognition program, which was established in 2002, gives employees the opportunity to recognize their colleagues for outstanding service. The program is similar to an employee of the month program, but 18 employees can be selected annually. Each nomination, which may be submitted by fellow employees or management, must meet criteria developed by the committee. The You Make A Difference Review Board evaluates eligible nominations each month. Winners are announced in a surprise ceremony in which the committee meets in their department and presents the award. Employees selected for the award receive:
§ Parking space with sign/plaque for a month
§ $100 gift certificate to business of choice within Sussex County
§ Letter of congratulations and personal visit from Jeffrey Fried, Beebe president
§ Photo for wall plaque on hall outside of cafeteria
§ Special pin for badge
§ Letter to team member's director and department recognition
