Beebe Support Services Group Plans Walk to Remember for October

09/22/05

Beebe Medical Center's Perinatal Loss Support Services will sponsor a Walk to Remember at 2 p.m., Sunday, October 16, at Block House Pond in Lewes.

The purpose of the walk is to allow parents, their friends and families, and other supporters to remember that the babies who have died, either in pregnancy or shortly after their births, live on in the hearts and memories of their families. The event takes place in October, which in 1988 was proclaimed National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month by former President Ronald Reagan.

Registration for the half-mile walk begins at 1:30 p.m. Participants will gather at Blockhouse Pond before the walk, and then will proceed along the paved walkway around the pond. At the end of the walk, a short memorial service will take place to honor the memory of the babies who have died through tubal pregnancy, miscarriage, stillbirth, and neonatal death.

All parents registering by Sept. 30 will receive a T-shirt. Friends, families and supporters may purchase a T-shirt for $10. For more information about the walk, to register, or to provide contributions to help fund the Perinatal Loss Support Services, call the Beebe School of Nursing at 645-3251, ext. 5470. In case of rain, the event will be held on October 23.
