Jean and Joan Fund Ready for 6th Tournament to Benefit Cancer Patient Care
09/13/05
Kings Creek Country Club in Rehoboth Beach will host the sixth annual Jean and Joan Fund golf tournament on Wednesday, October 5, 2005.
The Jean and Joan Fund was developed in 1999 in memory of Jean James and Joan Martin, two friends who died from cancer, but also who benefited from an outpouring of support from friends and family.
During this year's tournament the Jean and Joan Fund Committee aims to raise $31,000, which would bring its contribution to $160,000 over six years. The Fund has supported many initiatives at the Tunnell Cancer Center, including the development of the Jean and Joan Fund Recovery and Education Center, which makes resources available to cancer patients and their families to help them learn about cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Last year the proceeds from the tournament were used to purchase a new van that takes cancer patients to and from the Tunnell Cancer Center. This year, the funds are being earmarked to create areas of comfort and relaxation at the new Tunnell Cancer Center being built at the Beebe Health Campus on Route 24.
Golf tournament sponsors are still needed. Those interested in becoming a sponsor should contact Jim Martin by calling 226-1520, or by E-mail at quinnmartin@juno.com.
There are a limited number of reservations available for those who want to play golf. The entry fee is $160 per player and includes a memorial gift, green & cart fees, lunch, free beverages on the course, a cocktail hour, dinner and skill prizes. Reservations accompanied with a payment (cash, check, and credit card or King's Creek member charge) can be made at the King's Creek Pro-Shop, 1 Kings Creek Circle, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971. Play is limited to 108 golfers and the event has been sold out for the past few years. For further information contact Ty Mayers at 227-8953.
