Beebe Record -- More than 100 Babies Were Born In A Single Month

08/15/05

Beebe Medical Center is pleased to announce that for the first time, more than 100 babies were born in a single month at the Women's Health Pavilion.

Christopher Giack II, who was born July 29, was the 100th baby born in July. His parents are Christopher and Sarah Giack of Seaford. In fact, 104 babies were born during July. The last record was June the month before when 95 babies were born. Before that, the record month was July 2004 when 92 babies were born.

We are thrilled with our milestone, said Nancy Hastings, RN, Lactation Consultant and Nurse Manager of the Women's Health Pavilion. It's always wonderful to bring a new life into the world.

Beebe's Women's Health Pavilion has experienced a growth in births over the past five years. In 2000, there were just over 700 babies born in the hospital. In 2004, there were 922 babies born at the hospital. As of July 2005, there were 567 babies born -- representing 61 percent of the number of babies born in 2004.

The increased number of births appears to reflect the overall growth in population in Sussex County. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county's population grew 38.3 percent between 1990 and 2000. During the same period, the number of children under five years of age grew 5.8 percent, and the number of people under the age of 18 years of age grew by 22.5 percent.
