Beebe To Hold Health Fair at Long Neck Facility

05/31/05

Beebe Medical Center will offer free health screenings during a Health Fair to take place from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., June 18, at the Long Neck Lab on Long Neck Road in Millsboro.

No appointments are necessary but patients must fast for at least 10 hours in order to prepare for the screenings. They may drink water. Beebe staff will carry out three different screenings: cholesterol, blood pressure and glucose. The results of these screenings can indicate risk factors for heart disease and diabetes.

Heart disease is the No. 1 killer in Delaware, and No. 2 in the United States, statistics show. According to the American Diabetes Association, more than 65 percent of people with diabetes die from heart disease or stroke. With diabetes, heart attacks occur earlier in life and often result in death.

Early intervention and control of heart disease and diabetes can prevent many complications and can lead to a better-quality, and longer life.

The Long Neck Lab is located 32060 Long Neck Road, just south of the intersection with Route 24. It is open Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to noon. For more information, call the lab at (302) 947-1202.
