Dr. William J. Wenner, Jr., a medical educator and author who for nearly a decade served as the Medical Director for Quality of The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, has joined Beebe Medical Center as the new Vice President of Medical Affairs.
His responsibilities include liaison between the board, management and the medical staff, the management of quality improvement, utilization review and development, and the coordination of medical staff education programs.
Dr. Wenner received a warm welcome at Beebe this week during a reception with members of the management team. Beebe Medical Center President Jeffrey M. Fried said that he looks forward to working with Dr. Wenner.
Dr. Wenner brings a level of skill and expertise to our organization that will support us in our goal to continue to uphold the highest standards in the quality of medicine and patient care, Mr. Fried said.
Dr. Wenner, who arrived in Lewes this week, said he, too, is looking forward to working at Beebe and being involved in such a growing and dynamic community.
The focus of my career has been patient safety, and to create an environment for optimal patient experience, he said, adding that a safe and quality environment is one that allows great physicians to provide great care.
While at The Children's Hospital, Dr. Wenner directed activities of medical quality improvement, medical risk management and patient safety activities, and advised the chief executive officer and other administrative personnel on physician performance.
Dr. Wenner also authored The Pediatrician's Managed Care Manual, which was published by Total Learning Concepts, Inc. in 1999.
In 2001, after ten years in his medical leadership role at The Children's Hospital, Dr. Wenner decided to expand his skills by earning a law degree at the University of California, Davis.
The skills and knowledge I have gained through my legal studies will allow me to be more effective in improving the health care environment, he said.
During the two years before Dr. Wenner joined The Children's Hospital, he had been an assistant professor of Pediatric Gastroenterology at UC Davis. He is Board-certified in both pediatrics and pediatric gastroenterology. He also has worked in private practice.
Dr. Wenner's education and training includes a medical degree and M.P.A. from Pennsylvania State University. He did his pediatric residency at Stanford University in California, a Pediatric Gastroenterology & Nutrition Fellowship at The Children's Hospital, and a Quality Assurance, Utilization Review & Risk Management Fellowship at Pennsylvania State University.
