Beebe Opens Outpatient Vascular Lab in Millsboro
04/26/05
Beebe Medical Center is proud to announce that it is opening a new outpatient Vascular Laboratory on May 2 in Millsboro, where area patients can go to have any one of several non-invasive, vascular diagnostic procedures.
The new outpatient facility, located off Old Landing Road at 232 Mitchell Street, will be in addition to the existing Vascular Lab on the Beebe Medical Center's main campus at 424 Savannah Road in Lewes. The new lab will be open two days a week, Monday and Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The lab at the Medical Center facility will continue to be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
We are opening the lab to better serve our patients and physicians by offering services closer to where they live and work, said Ruth Myers, Registered Vascular Technologist. She added that the new facility would be more convenient for the growing population in the Long Neck/Millsboro area.
Beebe Medical Center's Vascular Laboratory Services is a comprehensive, non-invasive vascular program staffed by skilled professionals. It is under the umbrella of Beebe Medical Center's Cardiovascular Services, which focus on the detection and treatment of diseases that affect the heart and the vascular system.
In the Vascular Lab, tests and procedures are performed that help physicians diagnose such diseases as hardening of the arteries, stroke, and blood clots. Symptoms of stroke include blurred vision, temporary weakness in an arm or leg, a moment of numbness in an extremity, or in the face, and difficulty speaking or forming words. Peripheral Vascular disease may cause pain in the calf or thigh when walking or exercising or sores on the feet that don't heal. Deep Venous Thrombosis can cause pain or swelling in the legs or arms.
The Vascular Laboratory is accredited by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories. Earning its first accreditation in 1994, the Vascular Laboratory was among a select group of laboratories in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico to be granted accreditation.
A doctor must refer a patient to the Vascular Lab. Procedures may be scheduled at either the Millsboro or main campus labs by calling (302) 645-3710 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
