The thirteenth annual Conference by the Bay, a daylong educational seminar for nurses sponsored by Beebe Medical Center, will take place Friday, April 29, at the Rusty Rudder Baycenter in Dewey Beach. The conference is scheduled from 7:30 am to 3:45 pm.
Caring for cardiac patients before and after surgery will be one of the topics covered. Dr. Gerald M. Lemole, Chief of Cardiac Surgery at Christiana Care Health Services, will talk about the cardiothoracic surgeon's integrative approach to cardiovascular disease. Mary Zook, a clinical specialist and District Educator with Medtronic, Inc., will talk about the new wave in cardiac rhythm management.
Susan E. Oswalt, a registered nurse and Director of Women's Health Services at Beebe Medical Center, is scheduled to discuss creating a safe sleeping environment for babies. One of the objectives of the program is to identify six ways to reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome.
New technologies in joint replacement surgery will be presented by Dr. Wilson C. Choy, an orthopedic surgeon in Lewes, and a part of the nationally recognized Joint Replacement Program at Beebe Medical Center. Cheryl Graf, Director of Employment and Development at Beebe, will invigorate participants by sharing how to create fun at work.
The conference provides nursing professionals in the Mid-Atlantic region in all disciplines of care with updates on nursing for 2005. Beebe Medical Center will award participants with a certificate for 6.5 contact hours at the completion of the program. Beebe is an approved provider of Nursing Continuing Education by the Delaware Nurses' Association, which is accredited as an approver for Continuing education in Nursing by the American Nurses' Credentialing Center on Accreditation.
