Beebe Honors Two Employees

04/04/05

Nancy L.Cummings and Doris Lehman, two long-time Beebe Medical Center employees, have earned the You Make a Difference award.

Ms. Cummings, a Community Relations Specialist, is the March 2005 winner. She was nominated by her associates Beth Heid, the former Public Relations Specialist, and Kay Malone, the Community Health Nurse Coordinator, for her positive attitude and unfailing willingness to take on projects and to help others in her department, as well as throughout the community.

Ms. Cummings has been a Beebe employee for 15 years. She worked in the School of Nursing, Purchasing, Emergency Department, and the Tunnell Cancer Center before joining Public Relations in January 2004.

With her experience in several hospital departments, Ms. Cummings has been a key player in getting the Public Relations Department's community and hospital-wide projects accomplished.

She helped manage the unexpectedly large crowd at the Community Health Flu Clinic that arrived after the state Public Health Department had cancelled its flu clinics.
She is also a dedicated volunteer and serves on several boards, including the American Cancer Society and the International Association of Administrative Professionals. She also volunteers her time for the Relay for Life event and the Beebe Medical Foundation's annual Art Auction and Thanksgiving Ball.

Doris Lehman, a Patient Care Tech with the Surgical Services Department's Same Day Surgery, is the April winner.

Ms. Lehman has been with Beebe a total of 11 years. She first worked on the second floor medical surgical unit with Pat Smith, and then left Beebe to return several years later to join Same Day Surgery. Lehman was nominated by the Surgical Services staff for her sense of humor, creativeness, energy, positive attitude and for going the extra mile for co-workers and patients. Patients have described her as caring, informative, excellent, kind, compassionate and wonderful.

Ms. Lehman also is a dedicated volunteer. Each year she opens her own home and hosts a luncheon for the volunteers who help out in the surgery center. She makes personalized get well cards for patients when they are admitted into the hospital. She also volunteers to do blood sugar tests on the weekends. She made and sold bracelets in order to raise money for the SPCA, and helped with the White Elephant Sale at Peach Tree.

She also goes the extra mile for her co-workers, such as when she organized the fundraiser to help defray costs when the child of one of her co-workers was in the hospital.
