Beebe Medical Center Laboratories Receive CAP Accreditation
02/04/05
Beebe Medical Center laboratories have been awarded a re-accreditation by the Commission on Laboratory Accreditation of the College of the American Pathologists (CAP), based on the results of a recent on-site inspection.
Malcolm Hancock, Beebe Medical Center's directory of laboratory services, was notified of this national recognition and congratulated for the excellence of the services being provided. Beebe Medical Center laboratories are among the more than 6,000 CAP-accredited laboratories nationwide. The CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, which began in the early 1960s, is recognized by the federal government as being equal to or more stringent than the government's own inspection program.
During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors examine the laboratory's records and quality control of the procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine the entire staff's qualifications, the laboratory's equipment, facilities, safety program and record, as well as the overall management of the laboratory. This stringent inspection program is designed to specifically ensure the highest standard of care for the laboratory's patients.
Beebe Medical Center is proud of its 80 laboratory professionals who perform and process more than 600,000 laboratory tests throughout the community as a key element of patient care, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Beebe Medical Center's laboratory processes more than 400,000 specimens each year from its community laboratory/outpatient services sites at the Beebe Health Campus on Route 24, Beebe Lab Express at Five Points, Long Neck, Millville and the Emergency Department on Savannah Road. The Medical Center processes over 200,000 inpatient tests each year.
The CAP is a medical society serving nearly 16,000 physician members and the laboratory community throughout the world. It is the world's largest association composed exclusively of pathologists and is widely considered the leader in quality assurance. The CAP is an advocate for high quality and cost-effective medical care.
Beebe Medical Center Community Laboratory Renovates and Expands to Meet Community Needs
Beebe Medical Center is expanding its main community laboratory, located in the Hospital, by 4,000 square feet. The project will expand the lab area, enabling greater clinical work space, additional instruments and refrigerator/freezer capacity, and offering the potential for future capabilities like genetic testing and expanded blood banking.
