Beebe Recognizes December "You Make a Difference" Awardees
12/14/04
Beebe Medical Center is pleased to announce and congratulate its December “You Make A Difference” award recipients: Jerry Whitcomb, Allen Roach, Bob Horner, Bill Haines and Gary Hamilton, all of Plant Engineering, and Loretta Ostroski, RN, of the Emergency Department.
The group of dedicated men from Plant Engineering received their award in a surprise staff meeting on December 9. Their nomination, by Cathy Ward, RN, Colorectal Screening Advocate/Care Coordinator explains: “This team continually can be counted on to impact us with a very high caliber of work ethic and consistent, positive attitude. They recently moved eight offices that were emptied, repainted and put back together on short notice, with a minimal amount of disruption. These men can be observed consistently exceeding our customer service standards and they do it with unusual courtesy and good humor…they teach us how to “beam” on a daily basis by their exceptional example of positive attitude toward their work.”
Loretta Ostroski, RN, was recognized by fellow nurse managers, Margaret Porter and Kathy Canatelli, for developing, organizing and ensuring the success of the first New Graduate Internship program. This 16-week program, which ran from July - October, provided new nursing graduates with over 66 contact hours for nursing education and prepared them for their roles. As the nomination explains, “Loretta was seen as the leader of this project from the beginning, from formulating the ideas, outlines and agendas, to searching for rooms and speakers. Loretta truly showed a commitment to having Beebe Medical Center provide this program, which so many new nurses are looking for as they decide where they will go to work after graduation. Loretta shows her dedication on a daily basis, always working towards what is best for her staff and for the future success of Beebe Medical Center.”
Beebe Medical Center’s “You Make A Difference” employee recognition program gives employees the opportunity to recognize their colleagues for outstanding service. The program is similar to an employee of the month program. Each nomination, which may be submitted by fellow employees or management, must meet criteria developed by the committee. The “You Make A Difference” Review Board evaluates eligible nominations each month. Winners are announced in a surprise ceremony in which a member of senior management and the committee meet in the team member’s department and present the award. Employees selected for the award receive:
§ Parking space with sign/plaque for a month
§ $100 gift certificate to business of choice within Sussex County
§ Letter of congratulations and personal visit from Jeffrey Fried, Beebe president
§ Photo for wall plaque on hall outside of cafeteria
§ Special pin for badge
§ Letter to team member’s director and department recognition
