Jean & Joan Fund Committee’s Fifth Annual Golf Tournament Raises $29,000

11/16/04

Five-Year Total Donation Reaches $129,000

The Jean & Joan Fund Committee drew over 100 golfers from northern Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and Sussex County to its Fifth Annual Jean & Joan Fund Golf Tournament at the Kings Creek Country Club on Tuesday October 5, 2004. The successful event raised $29,000 to fund cancer services at Beebe Medical Center.

The Jean & Joan Fund Committee presented its check to the Tunnell Cancer Center on November 15, 2004. Since the first tournament in 2000, the Fund has donated $129,000 for patient care and assistance, including emergency equipment, a diagnostic system to monitor patient’s vital signs, an Image Recovery and Education Center, and, last year, a van to transport patients to the Center. At the November 15 check presentation, directors of the Jean & Joan Fund announced the $29,000 is dedicated toward the Tunnell Cancer Center’s patient care, thanks to the continued support of the local community and businesses. Jeffrey Fried, President and CEO of Beebe Medical Center announced the creation of the Jeanne Andrews Annual Trophy in memory of the Fund’s co-founder. The first winner of the award was Tricia Ritthaler from Kings Creek Country Club.

Since this was the Fund’s fifth anniversary, sponsors who supported the tournament from the beginning were honored at the tournament dinner on October 5, 2004, with an inscription on a plaque to be displayed at Beebe Medical Center. These sponsors were Allegis Group Foundation, Bear Industries, Beebe Medical Center, Burris Logistics, Crowley Associates Realty, Kings Creek Country Club, Midway Realty Corp., John J. Pohanka Family Foundation, Peninsula Masonry, Smith Barney & USExpress. The teams from Abraxus Oncology and the Allegis Group Foundation tied for this year’s championship and in a “match of cards” the Abraxus foursome of Ed Barnes, Ed Laferty, Luis Ramos and Beth Maxwell were named the winners.

Jean & Joan Fund Committee members are: Jim Martin (Chairman), Donna Brockstedt, Frank Cannatelli, Mardee Corbett, Jane DelGaudio, Jim Holdridge, Beth Magnus, Tillie McHugh, Nancy Stack, Tyson Mayers, Victor Balcom, Pamela Rutherford, Jeffrey Fried, Cherrie Rich, and Nancy Cummings.

Save the Date: The sixth annual golf tournament has been scheduled for Tuesday October 4, 2005 at Kings Creek Country Club.
