Beebe Medical Center Recognizes Employees through “You Make a Difference” Award

07/13/04

Beebe Medical Center is pleased to announce and congratulate its most recent “You Make A Difference” award winners: Debbie Taylor, Lead RN in Radiation Oncology, and Margaret Porter, RN, Patient Care Coordinator on Beebe’s third medical surgical floor (3MS).

Debbie Taylor, RN, was nominated by a group of team members from the Oncology Department including Dr. Andrejs Strauss, Dr. Brian Costleigh, Kristin Rahn, Lori Anderson and Paul Mayerscik. The glowing nomination recognized Debbie’s “competence, honesty, compassion and skills overall.” Ms. Taylor is praised for “tirelessly striving for deeper understanding of patient needs on physical, emotional and psychosocial levels in order to fully care for patients as well as their caregivers.” Her coworkers recognized her as extremely detail conscious and for going the extra mile to ensure patient treatments are on time. Her patients’ well being is always her number one priority.

Margaret Porter, RN, was nominated on behalf of the entire 3MS staff by Stacy Selway, RN, and Amanda Collins, RN. Their nomination states, “Margaret Porter is the best boss/nurse manager and has made 3MS a great floor to work on.” Ms. Porter is commended for taking on additional responsibility (for both the orthopaedic unit and 3MS) and creating a positive working environment, which helps nurses deliver optimum patient care. She has an open door policy, makes all staff comfortable to approach her, and is always on the floor keeping in touch with her staff in order to keep up with all that is going on with patients as well as staff.

Beebe Medical Center’s “You Make A Difference” employee recognition program, which was established in 2002, gives employees the opportunity to recognize their colleagues for outstanding service. The program is similar to an employee of the month program, but 18 employees can be selected annually. Each nomination, which may be submitted by fellow employees or management, must meet criteria developed by the committee. The “You Make A Difference” Review Board evaluates eligible nominations each month. Winners are announced in a surprise ceremony in which the committee meets in their department and presents the award. Employees selected for the award receive:

§ Parking space with sign/plaque for a month

§ Letter of congratulations and personal visit from Jeffrey Fried, Beebe president
