08/30/11
The Roxana Fire Company in Frankford is hosting a prostate cancer screening event presented by Beebe Medical Center's Tunnell Cancer Center on Tuesday, September 20, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the fire house.
In recognition of National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, men will be given the opportunity to have a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test and receive prostate cancer awareness education. This event is open to men 50 years of age and older who have not had a prostate screening in the past year, and are not being followed by a physician. Men who need their first prostate screening are encouraged to attend. Screenings can be given at no cost for eligible participants.
All men who attend will receive a gift. Men who sign up for a PSA blood test also will be entered in a raffle for a grand prize! Registration is required for a PSA blood test. To register, please call (302) 645-3169 or (302) 645-3100, ext. 2718.
The American Cancer Society recommends that prostate screening begin at age 45 for African American Men and 50 for Caucasian men. It recommends men should be screened at age 40 if there is a family history of prostate cancer. Beebe Medical Center advises men to make informed decisions about prostate screening according to ACS guidelines.
This program is made possible through funding from Beebe Medical Foundation's annual Progress for Prostate Golf Tournament.
