Beebe Medical Foundation Board of Ambassadors Pledges $30,000 for Nursing Education Campaign

06/23/11

"At their meeting last week, Beebe Medical Foundation's Board of Ambassadors set a goal to raise $100,000 in support of the Nursing Education Campaign.

Keith Parsell made the first pledge of $10,000 in honor of his daughter Christina Parsell Lopez who worked as a nurse in Beebe Medical Center's Emergency Department before relocating to San Diego with her husband.

Mike Fannin, Chairman of the Board of Ambassadors, pledged $10,000 and shared a story about the great care his wife Tina received when their first baby was delivered at Beebe Medical Center.

Board member and Lewes urologist Ramachandra Hosmane, MD, who has been a member of the Beebe Medical Staff since 1978, pledged $10,000. He recalled the help he received from Christina Parsell when she was a Beebe nurse.

The Board of Ambassadors is comprised of 32 members of the community who support Beebe Medical Center and its commitment to provide high quality medical care and to improve the health of those living and visiting in southern Delaware.

Beebe Medical Foundation recently launched a campaign to expand Beebe School of Nursing, which is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year. Beebe Medical Center is the only hospital in Delaware with a school of nursing, and one of the few in the United States. When the expansion is complete, the school will be able to double the number of nurses who are able to attend, and graduate as many as 60 nurses each year.

The expansion plan includes replacing and remodeling the existing structure. The campaign goal is to raise $5.9 million to fund the first phase of the project. With more than $3 million already in hand, the Medical Center needs $2.9 million more to add the needed classrooms and labs.

Beebe Medical Center is fortunate to operate a nursing school that prepares nurses to meet the growing demands in our healthcare arena. Our country is expected to face a serious shortage of nurses in coming years as our population increases and as many nurses retire. To help us ensure the continued availability of educated and experienced nurses, please support our Nursing Education Campaign.
