A Progress for Prostrate funded free men's health event "Lures for a Cure" Takes Place June 18
""Free fishermen's raffle, fishermen's door prizes, giveaways and health screenings are available compliments of Cripple Creek Country Club's and Beebe Medical Foundation's Progress for Prostate, partnering with Tunnell Cancer Center to host the first free 'Lures for a Cure' on Saturday, June 18, from 8 a.m. to Noon at St. George's Chapel, Rt. 23 (Beaver Dam Road), Harbeson.
A continental breakfast will be served throughout the morning, and attendees will be entered into a free raffle for prizes provided by local fishing and sporting establishments. Gift certificates to sports shops, bait and tackle stores, sport fishing tours, and kayak tours are all part of the raffles that will be going on throughout the morning. There will also be information and demonstrations from fishing experts, and boat safety instruction. Free fishing hats will be provided for every man.
"This is a morning dedicated to men and their sport, 'luring them in' with a fishing recreational theme, then taking care of their screening needs," Kathy Cook, cancer screening nurse navigator at Tunnell Cancer Center. "What better way to celebrate Father's Day than for men to indulge in sporting fun, in addition to getting screened for prostate cancer, and having their cholesterol/blood sugar and blood pressure tested, along with body fat measurements?" Early detection is the key to saving lives.
Dr. Richard Paul, a Board certified urologist, will be speaking at 9 a.m. about prostate cancer. The American Cancer Society's Men-to-Men Group will stress the importance of early prostate screening. The Wellness Community of Delaware, Gift of Life Organ Donation Program, La Red Health Center, First State Community Action Agency, and CHAP (Community Healthcare Access Program) are healthcare partners, offering information throughout the event.
