03/28/11
"Beebe School of Nursing, in conjunction with the American Heart Association, will host a free Stroke Risk Assessment Thursday, April 7, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., in front of the pharmacy at the Rehoboth Wal-Mart on Route 1.
Senior nursing students from Beebe School of Nursing will perform the assessments. They will check blood pressure and pulse, and share information about stroke and ways to reduce the risk for stroke. The appointments will only take a few minutes. No appointments are necessary.
According to the American Heart Association, Stroke is the No. 3 killer and the No. 1 disabler of Americans. Every 60 seconds someone suffers a stroke. Every 3 minutes someone dies from a stroke. Stroke needs to be treated with the same sense of urgency as a heart attack. Because of this, the new terminology for stroke is Brain Attack . Early intervention can minimize brain injury and preventive care may reduce the risk of stroke. If a stroke is suspected, always call 911.
For questions concerning the event, call Karen Pickard (302)-645-3251, ext.5593.
