Cancer Survivor Leads Fundraising Effort to buy DVD Players for Tunnell Cancer Center Patients
01/28/11
"Led by cancer survivor Joe Signorelli, a group calling itself The Friends of St. Peregrine is raising funds to buy portable DVD players for all 20 chemotherapy infusion stations at Beebe Medical Center's Tunnell Cancer Center. The group is named after the Patron Saint of cancer victims.
Three to five hours per visit is the average amount of time a patient spends in the Tunnell Cancer Center undergoing chemotherapy treatment. Often, there is not much else to do besides sit and think or read. According to Signorelli, who received his cancer treatment at Tunnell Cancer Center, Sometimes, you would rather not think too much when you're receiving chemotherapy.
The group has a fundraising goal of $5000, which includes the cost for a DVD library. Each patient would be provided with a headset so that other patients would not be disturbed, and a large DVD library would ensure that patients have a variety of movies to choose from.
