Tunnell Cancer Center Offers No-Cost Mammograms to Eligible Women on Dec. 9
11/29/10
Beebe Medical Center's Tunnell Cancer Center is offering no-cost mammograms and clinical breast exams to women who qualify at their monthly Breast Health Forum on Thursday, December 9, from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The event will take place at the Tunnell Cancer Center located at the Beebe Health Campus, John J. Williams Highway (Route, 24) in Rehoboth Beach.
Pre-registration is required for the no-cost mammograms. To register, please call (302) 645-3169 before the day of the event to speak with our cancer screening nurse navigator.
All women 18 years and older should have a clinical breast exam, and all women 40 years and older should have a yearly mammogram.
This initiative called SOS², Sharing Our Stories, Saving Our Sisters, is funded by a grant from the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Philadelphia Affiliate. Lay screening navigators go out into the community and tell their story in order to encourage women to get screened for breast cancer because early detection saves lives. Collaboration with businesses, organizations, churches, and community groups help spread the message that early detection saves lives. Mammograms and clinical breast exams are important diagnostic tools used to identify breast abnormalities.
There is no better gift to yourself or a loved one than the gift of a mammogram, which can lead to early diagnosis and early treatment of breast cancer, says Judith Ramirez, EdD, Manager of Psychosocial Services and Outreach at Tunnell Cancer Center.
