Jean & Joan Fund 11th Annual Golf Tournament Raises more than $28,000 for Tunnell Cancer Center

"The JEAN & JOAN FUND committee announces that it will donate more than $28,000 to Tunnell Cancer Center from the proceeds of the 11th Annual Golf Tournament held in October at the Kings Creek Country Club.
The annual event was a success. Ninety players participated, some coming from as far as Texas. Delaware State Representative and House Majority Leader Pete Schwartzkopf served as Honorary Chairperson. Players included Jeffrey M. Fried, President and CEO of Beebe Medical Center, Paul Mylander, Chairman of Beebe Medical Foundation, and medical oncologist/hematologist Srihari Peri, MD, Medical Director of the Tunnell Cancer Center. The winning foursome for the third time was Richard Caruso, MD, Paul Cowan, DO, Leo Eschbach Jr., DO, and Paul Mylander. Fifteen local & national businesses and associations sponsored the event. Three major sponsors were AstraZeneca, a global Pharmaceutical Company located in Wilmington, Kings Creek Country Club, and SPI-Pharma of Lewes, Delaware.
The JEAN & JOAN FUND has contributed $310,000 for patient care since its founding. These funds have been used to jointly create, with the Tunnell Cancer Center, a Special Patient Needs Fund and to provide transportation to remote patients for their treatment and testing. The JEAN & JOAN FUND vans have carried more than 5,000 patients over 250,000 miles since 2003. More than $50,000 has been disbursed from the Special Needs Fund for cancer patients and their families in economic distress since the fund was created five years ago.
The next JEAN & JOAN FUND golf tournament will be held at Kings Creek Country Club on Tuesday October 4, 2011.
